Total & Permanent Disablement claim

If you are injured or have an illness due to the work injury and you cannot return to work then you may be eligible for claim Total & Permanent Disablement Claim (TPD), Income Protection and death cover provided you have an active superannuation account at the time you were injured or last worked.

How do you know whether you have TPD or Income Protection Claim

Whether you are eligible to claim for TPD?

You will only be entitled to claim TPD lump sum compensation claim if you are injured or ceased all your work on that day. This pertains to the insurance cover you have with your superannuation account.

 

TPD does not necessarily means that if you are injured and have the TPD insurance you will apply for the lump sum compensation claim. For example, if you are covered by the relevant insurer for your TPD claim then you must specify eligibility requirement and exclusion clauses that are always contained in the TPD fund policy. This will usually depends on the TPD cover you have at the time of the illness or injury, also that the insurer fund entered your TPD claim at the time.

What are the requirements to entitle to TPD claim?

First and foremost, requirement is to have the TPD insurance claim at the time of the injury or illness. Once that is verified then the second requirement is to meet the definition criteria of “Total & Permanent Disablement claim”. This entails what the special requirement for that particular insurer is at the when you were injured or ceased all your work.

 

You must be under the age of 65 at the time you ceased working on your account or you last worked to be eligible to claim for TPD benefits.

 

If your superannuation account is closed or it’s been a long time since the contributions were made into your superannuation account, it does not matter you are still entitled to claim your TPD claim as long as you are covered by the insurer at the time of the injury or last date you worked.
