If you are injured during the course of your employment, you are entitled to claim the following:
- Weekly compensation: An officer of the law who sustains an injury while on duty and is unable to work is entitled to weekly compensation from the insurance company. The police officer's compensation will be at the award rate for the first six months of their incapacity. In case the injury forces the police officer to take up alternate employment, wherein their income is lower than what they would have made if they had been able to remain employed by the NSW Police Service, they will be entitled to continuous make-up pay.
- Medical treatment & Expenses: The insurance company shall reimburse the injured police officer for all fair and necessary medical treatment costs. If a police officer sustains a serious injury, their medical bills will be covered for the remainder of their life.
- Police officers are entitled to lump sum compensation if their injuries cause a total impairment. Naturally, the amount of compensation that is due increases with the severity of the injury and the degree of impairment. Furthermore, an injured police officer has the right to look into the incident and may be able to file a claim for work injury damages if the injury results in a whole person impairment of 15 percent or higher.
